March 10, 2017--ETFGI, the leading independent research and consultancy firm on trends in the global ETF/ETP ecosystem, reported today, on the 27th anniversary of the listing of the first ETF, assets invested in ETFs/ETPs listed in Canada reached a new record of US$90.61 billion at the end February 2017 surpassing the prior record of US$88.84 billion set at the end of January 2017.
Twenty seven years ago on March 9th, 1990 the first ETF was listed in Canada on the Toronto Stock Exchange: the TIPs (Toronto 35 Index Participation Fund) tracking the TSX 35 index.

Retirement Fund Assets Grew 8% from 2014 to $19.1 Trillion in 2016
March 10, 2017--Across DB and DC plans, retirement assets total $19.1 trillion, according to data from a Federal Reserve report on DB and DC asset holdings and flows.
Total financial assets in both public and private DB pension plans were $12.4 billion in 2016, up 8% from $11.5 trillion in 2014 Total financial assets in DC plans were $6.7 trillion in 2016, up 10% from $6.1 trillion in 2014.

SEC Rejects Winklevoss Bitcoin ETF Bid
March 10, 2017--The US Securities and Exchange Commission has denied a bid to list a bitcoin-tied exchange-traded fund (ETF), citing the risk of fraud and a lack of regulation among the world's bitcoin markets.
The decision caps a more than three-year quest by bitcoin investors Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss, who first sought to list the bitcoin-tied product in mid-2013.

SEC gives green light to Bats' proposed changes for ETF rules
March 8, 2017--The SEC on Tuesday approved ETF rule changes proposed by Bats' BZX Exchange to create additional listing standards and procedures for delisting of non-compliant companies.
The Securities and Exchange Commission's approval, granted on an accelerated basis, also calls for public comment on the proposed changes, 21 days after it is published in the Federal Register.
