Economic development, carbon emissions and climate policies
September 8, 2025-If economic activity is considered the primary driver of climate change through emissions of carbon dioxide, then supporting economic growth and fighting emissions would appear to be at odds. However, the process of economic development may itself foster complementarity between GDP growth and emissions reductions.
Such complementary in the relationship between economic development and emissions reduction might reflect changes in the industrial composition of economic activity, technological advancements or environmental consciousness.This view is in line with the Environmental Kuznets Curve (EKC) hypothesis: that per-capita income growth is associated with increases in carbon emissions up to a certain threshold of economic development, but beyond that threshold, higher per-capita incomes are associated with lower emissions per capita. The EKC hypothesis, suggests that economic development is actually a pathway to environmental improvements.
We test the EKC hypothesis for 191 countries over 1989-2022, enabling us to study the overall validity of the EKC hypothesis at global level.
Samsung Securities Launches Two ETNs Tracking Solactive China Mobility Top 5 Hedged to KRW Index and AI Tech Top 5 Hedged to KRW Index in First Collaboration with Solactive
September 8, 2025- Solactive is pleased to announce its first Collaboration with Samsung Securities through the launch of two new exchange-traded notes (ETNs). The Samsung CHINA MOBILITY TOP5 TR ETN (H) and the Samsung CHINA AI TECH TOP5 TR ETN (H) track the Solactive China Mobility Top 5 Hedged to KRW Index TR and the Solactive China AI Tech Top 5 Hedged to KRW Index TR, respectively.
Both ETNs provide Korean investors with focused access to China's most leading and influential companies in the rapidly growing fields of mobility and artificial intelligence, while mitigating foreign exchange risk through a monthly KRW hedge.
China has solidified its position as a global leader in mobility and Artificial Intelligence (AI) innovation. China dominated the global Electric Vehicle (EV) market in 2024, accounting for nearly two-thirds of global EV sales and over 70% of global EV production, establishing its leadership across the EV value chain[1].
Desjardins Investments Expands ETF Offering with Launch of Desjardins American Mid Cap Equity Index ETF, Tracking the Solactive GBS United States 400 CAD Index (CA NTR)
September 8, 2025-Solactive is pleased to deepen its collaboration with Desjardins Investments with the launch of Desjardins American Mid Cap Equity Index ETF (DMID) tracking the Solactive GBS United States 400 CAD Index (CA NTR). This launch builds on the successful introduction of the Desjardins Emerging Market Equity Index ETF in February 2025, which tracks the Solactive GBS Emerging Markets Large & Mid Cap Index.
