ESMA publishes guidelines for issuers performance measures

June 30, 2015--The European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) has published its Final Guidelines on Alternative Performance Measures (APMs) for listed issuers.

The aim of the guidelines is to encourage European issuers to publish transparent, unbiased and comparable information on their financial performance in order to provide users a comprehensive understanding of their performance

ESMA issues final MiFID standards on authorization, passporting, registration of third-country firms

June 30, 2015--The European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) has its Final Report on MiFID II-MiFIR draft technical standards (RTSs) on authorisation, passporting, registration of third country firms and cooperation between competent authorities.

This Final Report covers the majority of the draft RTS and ITS on investor protection topics which ESMA is expected to develop. The remaining draft technical standards ESMA is mandated to develop under MiFID II and MiFIR will be published by the end of 2015.

ESMA agrees to proposed short-selling ban by Greek HCMC

June 29, 2015--The European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) has issued today its official opinion agreeing to a seven-day emergency short selling prohibition proposed by the Hellenic Capital Market Commission (HMCM) under the Short Selling Regulation.

Tthe ban will take effect on 00:00:01 hours (CET) 30 June 2015 and remain in place until 24:00:00 (CET) on 6 July 2015 and temporarily prohibit transactions in any financial instrument that create, or increase, a net short position on any of the shares admitted to trading on the Athens Exchange and Multilateral Trading Facility "EN.A".

Research reveals planned future use of different types of ETPs

June 29, 2015--New research from Source, one of the largest providers of Exchange Traded Products (ETPs) in Europe, reveals that those investing in ETPs on average use three to four different types, and 78% plan to maintain or increase their exposure to these products during 2015.

The findings reveal that 71% of these investors currently have exposure to tracker ETPs, and 37% plan to increase this during 2015, compared to just 5% who intend to reduce their exposure here. The corresponding figures for actively managed ETPs are 40%, 10% and 4%.

Securities financing transactions: Council confirms agreement with EP on transparency rules

June 29, 2015--On 29 June 2015, the Permanent Representatives Committee endorsed, on behalf of the Council, an agreement on improving the transparency of securities lending and repurchase transactions.

The proposed regulation will enhance financial stability by ensuring that information on so-called securities financing transactions is efficiently reported to trade repositories and investors in collective investment undertakings. An agreement on the text was reached with the European Parliament on 17 June 2015.

SIX has entered into negotiations with Deutsche Boerse over the complete sale of the shares it holds in the joint ventures STOXX AG and Indexium AG

June 29, 2015--STOXX AG and Indexium AG are operated as joint ventures by SIX and Deutsche Börse AG (DBAG).

SIX confirms that it has entered into negotiations with DBAG over the complete acquisition of the shares SIX holds in the two joint ventures by DBAG at a purchase price of CHF 650 million.

Record fund listings on London Stock Exchange in first half of 2015

June 26, 2015--14 fund IPOs on London's markets in first half of 2015, raising £2.3bn, a 6 per cent increase on last year

London attracts growing numbers of international fund managers across diversified range of funds
20 per cent of money raised is for US based managers
461 funds now listed on London markets

London Stock Exchange today announces that there have been 14 fund IPOs on its markets to date in 2015, raising £2.3bn. This is the most money raised in the first half of the year for the last 10 years and reflects London’s continuing attractiveness to international fund managers, particularly from the US.

MNI Russia Business Sentiment Rises to 51.8 in June

June 26, 2015--First Rise in Exports since the Introduction of Sanctions
Easing inflationary pressures, growing order books and improved access to credit all contributed to the more upbeat attitude of large Russian companies in June, providing additional support for our previous assertion that a turning point in the business environment may have been reached.

The MNI Russia Business Sentiment Indicator rose by 1% to 51.8 in June from 51.3 in May, the highest since July 2014. Construction companies were the sole driver of this month's improvement, while sentiment among those in the manufacturing and service sectors was unchanged on the month.

EBA presents advice on criteria and capital treatment for securitisation

June 26, 2015--The EBA presents its recommendations on a European Union (EU) framework for qualifying securitisations at a public hearing held in London today.

The European Commission had requested in 2014 the EBA to advise on criteria for identifying a prudentially sound securitisation market and its regulatory treatment. The EBA, as one of the specialised EU agencies in banking and financial regulation, will deliver the opinion to the EC in early July and today's hearing is intended to give advance information of its findings to market participants.
