Euro area securities issues statistics: November 2019
January 13, 2020-The annual growth rate of the outstanding amount of debt securities issued by euro area residents was 3.0% in November 2019, compared with 2.9% in October.
For the outstanding amount of listed shares issued by euro area residents, the annual rate of change was -0.1% in November 2019, compared with -0.2% in October.
Debt securities
New issuance of debt securities by euro area residents totalled EUR 648.2 billion in November 2019. Redemptions amounted to EUR 556.5 billion and net issues to EUR 91.6 billion. The annual growth rate of outstanding debt securities issued by euro area residents was 3.0% in November 2019, compared with 2.9% in October.

ESMA report values EU Alternative Investment Funds at EUR5.8 trillion
January 10, 2020--The European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) today published its second statistical report on European Union (EU) Alternative Investment Funds (AIF). The study found that the EU AIF sector in 2018, as measured by Net Asset Value (NAV), amounted to €5.8tn or nearly 40% of the total EU fund industry.
The report is based on data from 30,357 AIFs, or almost 100% of the market.
Sector breakdown
Funds of Funds accounted for 14% of the industry, followed by Real Estate Funds (12%), Hedge Funds (6%) and Private Equity Funds (6%).

New Tabula ETF on Xetra: European corporate bonds with investment grade and fixed coupon
January 10, 2020--Since Friday, a new Exchange Traded Fund from Tabula ICAV is tradable on Xetra and Börse Frankfurt.
With the Tabula European iTraxx IG Bond UCITS ETF (EUR), investors participate in the performance of an index that represents an equally weighted portfolio of liquid European corporate bonds with investment grade and denominated in Euro.
In order to be included in the reference index, a bond must have an outstanding volume of at least EUR 500 million and a residual maturity of three to seven years.

ESMA announces key priorities for 2020-22
January 9, 2020--The European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA), the EU's securities markets regulator, has published its Strategic Orientation for 2020-22. The Strategic Orientation sets out ESMA's future focus and objectives and reflects its expanded responsibilities and powers following the ESAs Review, and EMIR 2.2, which increases its focus on supervisory convergence, strengthens its role in building the Capital Markets Union (CMU) and gives it with more direct supervision responsibilities.
The strategy details ESMA's planned activities, based on its enhanced role, to respond to the challenges faced by the EU, its citizens and capital markets including developing a large retail investor base to support the CMU, promoting sustainable finance and long-term oriented markets, dealing with the opportunities and risks posed by digitalisation, the EU's role in international finance and ensuring a proportionate approach to regulation.

Sudden and drastic price swings in financial markets can be a source of market instability and are a concern for market participants, supervisors and regulators. Circuit breakers are key instruments used by trading venues to regulate markets and interrupt excessive price movements.

High demand prompts launch of Europe's first cannabis ETF
January 5. 2020--Similar products in North America have proved popular despite a poor year for the sector
European savers will soon be offered their first opportunity to invest in an exchange traded fund focused on the fast-growing legal marijuana industry.
Canadian fund group Purpose Investments plans to launch the Medical Cannabis and Wellness ETF from January 13, which will be Europe's first such product. The fund will be listed in Germany and made available to investors in the UK, Italy and Ireland.
