Key finding: 1 percent increase in migrant share in adult population results in 2 percent higher GDP in the long run
China's economic transition and the population changes caused by migration are two phenomena originating in emerging economies with spillovers that influence a whole range of other economies. Such spillovers pose short-term challenges, but can be harnessed to benefit the global economy in the long run,IMF economists say in a new study.

IMF Executive Board Concludes 2016 Article IV Consultation with the Philippines
September 26, 2016--On September 14, 2016, the Executive Board of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) concluded the Article IV consultation1 with the Philippines.
The Philippine economy has continued to perform strongly. Real GDP regained strength from a slowdown in mid-2015 to record a robust 5.9 percent growth rate in 2015 and 6.9 percent in the first half of 2016.
Both consumption and investment grew rapidly, while net exports were held back by weak external demand. Job creation was also strong, with the unemployment rate declining to 6.3 percent in 2015 and 6.0 percent in the first half of 2016.

Chinese business sentiment highest since August 2015 says MNI
September 23, 2016--The latest MNI China Business survey suggests that headline sentiment has risen to a thirteen-month high suggesting that the Chinese economy will likely end Q3 on a fairly strong note, with growth holding up in both manufacturing and services.
"While the outlook remains challenging, our forward-looking activity indicators suggest that growth momentum is likely to continue into the final quarter of the year, supported by a continuation of policy easing," says Andy Wu, senior economist of MNI Indicators.

Sebi to work on algo rules with 'open mind: Chairman

China's ODI surges 53.3 pct in first 8 months
September 14, 2016--Chinese companies continued to invest big in the overseas market during the first eight months of the year, the Ministry of Commerce said Wednesday.
China's non-financial outbound direct investment (ODI) surged 53.3 percent from a year ago to 775.12 billion yuan (118.06 billion U.S. dollars) in the January-August period, according to a statement posted on the ministry's website.
