China's GDP grows 6.9% in Q2
July 17, 2017--China's GDP rose 6.9 percent year-on-year in the second quarter of 2017, flat from the first quarter, official data showed Monday.
The pace was slightly higher than previous market consensus of 6.8 percent and well above the government's annual target of "around 6.5 percent."
In the first half, the growth rate was also 6.9 percent, the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) said in a statement.

Asia listed ETP Monthly Highlights (Assets & Flows):
Assets: ETP AUM up by $2.8bn on MoM basis and ended the month at
$372bn.
Flows: June saw the first monthly net outflows in 2017 of -$0.6bn (YTD
+$25.1bn).
New Product Launches-9 new products, fixed income ETFs dominate
Asia-Pac ETP market recorded 9 new launches which include 1 equity, 6 fixed
income and 2 commodity ETFs. New launches were primarily around Korean
equities, US treasuries, Australian bonds, crude oil and grains.
Investment Themes for the Month
Equity ETFs attracted +$1.8bn in June (+$407mn in May). Primary contributors were Japan focused ETFs registering inflows of +$2.3bn driven by Bank of Japan purchases.
South Korea,Taiwan and Hong Kong focused ETFs were other beneficiaries in June collecting inflows of +$414mn, +$388mn and + $287mn respectively.
Leveraged/inverse (-$1.1bn) and China (-$628mn) focused ETFs saw redemptions in June.
Fixed income ETFs witnessed outflows of -$2.9bn, primarily from China money market ETFs (-$3.3bn).
Non Asia listed Equity ETFs with investment focus in the Asia-Pacific region drew +$2.6bn driven also by Japan focused ETFs (+$1.5bn).
Turnover: MoM turnover increased by 12.6% The total turnover activity into Asian ETPs increased by 12.6% ($187.7bn) compared to the previous month’s total ($166.8bn).

World Bank-Vietnam's Economy Shows Fundamental Strength, with Stable and Positive Medium Term Outlook
July 13, 2017--WB bi-annual report recognizes strong momentum of Vietnam's economy and points to policies to solidify macroeconomic resilience and address structural bottlenecks to growth.
Amidst strengthening recovery in the global economy since late 2016, Vietnam's gross domestic product (GDP) expanded by 5.7 percent during the first half 2017, while inflation has so far moderated and core inflation remains low, at less than 2 percent.

BetaShares Australian ETF Review-Half Year 2017-ETF Industry "in the black" for the financial year
July 13, 2017-It has been a very strong half for the Australian ETF industry for the first six months of 2017. The industry's funds under management grew rapidly, increasing 14% for the half year to end the financial year at a new record high of $29.4B.
The industry grew funds under management by $3.6B for the half, setting the scene for a record year of asset growth if such growth is maintained in the second half. Trading activity levels also reached record highs, with trading value increasing 10% compared to the previous half.

BetaShares ETFs: sorting fact from fiction (Part 1)
July 12, 2017--There's no doubt exchange traded funds (ETFs) are shaking up the wealth industry across the world, including Australia, and, as such have naturally attracted their fair share of friends and detractors in the process. As a relatively new product in Australia, it's also understandable that many investors are still learning to sort through the many claims and counter-claims made about ETF investing.
To help in this regard, I have taken the time to outline my response to some of the most common ETF questions and concerns that have been raised with me by investors over the past few years. The first part of the post deals with ETF liquidity. I'll follow up next week with Part 2 which deals with the claims that ETFs are complex and risky and that they may be responsible for causing a bubble in sharemarkets (spoiler alert: they aren't and they aren't)!

GPIF posts,return of 7.9YEN trillion for fiscal 2016, marking best performance in two years
July 7, 2017--The world's biggest pension fund posted its best annual gain in two years, as Japanese and overseas stocks rose while government bonds slid.
The Government Pension Investment Fund returned 5.9 percent, or ¥7.9 trillion, in the year ended March 31, increasing assets to a record ¥144.9 trillion, it said in Tokyo on Friday.

Vietnam's economy and population are expected to be increasingly affected by climate change. In
addition, the country's growth model-which permitted quick reduction of poverty-has been
unsustainably relying on mining and natural resources and air, land and water pollution increased.
Well aware of the critical challenges faced by the country, the government has undertaken numerous
initiatives and programs to adapt the economy to climate change risks and transform the growth
model to support an environmental-friendly economy, but significant challenges remain.

New VanEck floating rate ETF to be launched on ASX
July 3, 2017--The ASX will soon have another income-focused ETF available for investors to trade when VanEck launches its Vectors Australian Floating Rate ETF.
The new ETF will be an Australian floating rate note ETF which will traded under the ASX code of FLOT.
