The Good of 2016 included domestic equities which gained 10%,
the Bad included the passing of many social and popular culture
icons who influenced us and whom we felt like we knew and the Ugly included the division created by the Presidential Election.
Some of the more sensational headlines were quite memorable including Brexit and nuclear testing in North Korea but also some headlines you may have forgotten (with a hat tip to Seeking
Alpha) which included the Panama Papers, Italian bank woes, German auto problems and Pokemon Go.

SEC Offers Guidance on DOL Fiduciary Rule Compliance
December 30, 2016-Since the DOL conflict of interest rule's publication, mutual fund providers and their adviser-intermediaries have also been asking the SEC extensive questions about sales loads, fee schedules, etc.
The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) will not be in charge of applying the stricter conflict of interest standards being introduced for retirement plan advisers and the investment providers supplying them with products to sell, but many of its own rules and regulations will interact intimately with the Department of Labor rulemaking.

ETFGI reports assets invested in ETFs/ETPs listed in Canada reached a new record high of 83 billion US dollars at the end of November 2016
December 30, 2016-ETFGI, the leading independent research and consultancy firm on trends in the global ETF/ETP ecosystem, today reported assets invested in ETFs/ETPs listed in Canada are US$83.40 billion at the end of November 2016.
Net flows gathered by ETFs/ETPs in November were US$1.95 Bn of net new assets gathered during the month, according to data from ETFGI's November 2016 global ETF and ETP industry insights report.
Record levels of assets under management were also reached at the end of November for ETFs/ETPs listed globally at US$3.445 trillion and in the United States at US$2.471 trillion.

December 30, 2016--Final Liquidating Distribution Accompanies Previously Announced Regular Monthly Distribution
Nuveen, an operating division of TIAA Global Asset Management, has completed the liquidations of the Nuveen Diversified Commodity Fund (NYSE MKT: CFD) and the Nuveen Long/Short Commodity Total Return Fund (NYSE MKT: CTF). As previously announced, each fund's shares ceased trading and were delisted after the close of business on Friday, December 23, 2016.

December 29, 2016--Horizons ETFs Management (Canada) Inc. ("Horizons ETFs") has announced that it plans to eliminate all advisor-class units of its Canadian-listed exchange trade funds (ETFs).
Advisor-class units are a specific class of ETF units which pay a service fee to the financial professionals who have purchased them on behalf of their clients.

December 28, 2016--The Securities and Exchange Commission today issued its two annual staff reports on credit rating agencies registered as nationally recognized statistical rating organizations (NRSROs).
The reports show that NRSROs have made operational improvements and have enhanced process accountability, controls and governance, and that smaller NRSROs have made competitive inroads in certain rating categories.
