October 2, 2017--Highlights of the Week Ending 9/29/2017
Macro
With the third quarter having ended, we'll start with a recap of equity prices. For the month of September the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 2.33%, the S&P 500 added 2.50%, the NASDAQ squeaked out 2.00% and the Russell 2000 rallied a strong 7.15%.
The Q3 numbers were also strong despite having taken August off, with the Dow up 4.94%, the S&P moved ahead 3.96%, the NASDAQ positive by 5.79% and the Russell 2000 was also strong, adding 5.33%. The year to date numbers came in at plus 13.36% for the Dow, 10.64% for the S&P, 20.67% for the NASDAQ and 9.03% for the Russell 2000.

AGF Changes Risk Rating of QuantShares Global Equity Rotation ETF
October 2, 2017--Effective today, AGF Investments Inc. ("AGF") (TSX:AGF.B) is changing the risk rating of QuantShares Global Equity Rotation ETF (the "QGL ETF") from "low-to-medium" to "medium".
This change results from compliance with the Canadian Securities Administrators' Mutual Fund Risk Classification Methodology, which became effective on September 1, 2017. Previously, AGF followed a risk classification methodology based on the approach recommended by The Investment Funds Institute of Canada.

October 2, 2017--The two actively managed bond ETF series give investors access to the popular monthly income and investment grade credit strategies.
PIMCO Canada, part of leading global investment management firm PIMCO, has launched two actively managed bond exchange-traded fund (ETF) series in Canada. These innovatively structured ETF series are additional access points to two established mutual funds-PIMCO Monthly Income Fund (Canada) and PIMCO Investment Grade Credit Fund (Canada). The ETF series are listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange.

IMF Working paper-The Adjustment to Commodity Price Shocks in Chile, Colombia, and Peru
September 29, 2017-- Summary:
This paper presents a comparative analysis of the macroeconomic adjustment in Chile, Colombia, and Peru to commodity terms-of-trade shocks. The study is done in two steps: (i) an analysis of the impulse responses of key macroeconomic variables to terms-of-trade shocks and (ii) an event study of the adjustment to the recent decline in commodity prices.
The experiences of these countries highlight the importance of flexible exchange rates to help with the adjustment to lower commodity prices, and staying vigilant in addressing depreciation pressures on inflation through tightening monetary policies. On the fiscal front, evidence shows that greater fiscal space, like in Chile and Peru, gives more room for accommodating terms-of-trade shocks.

Bats Welcomes New PowerShares Fund To The Bats ETF Marketplace
September 29, 2017--Bats, a CBOE Holdings, Inc. company, and a leading market for exchange-traded product (ETP) trading globally, today welcomed a new PowerShares PureBeta fund to the Bats ETF Marketplace.
The launch brings the total number of PowerShares funds listed on the Bats ETF Marketplace to 16.
The PowerShares PureBeta US Aggregate Bond Portfolio fund (Bats: PBND) seeks to track the investment results of The BofA Merrill Lynch US Broad Market Index. It follows five PowerShares PureBeta Funds that launched on the Bats ETF Marketplace last week.

Deutsche Asset Management's US ETFs Renamed to Xtrackers in Line with Global Product Line
September 29, 2017--Deutsche Asset Management (Deutsche AM) today announced the renaming of its US exchange-traded funds (ETFs) to Xtrackers to harmonize the fund names with the change previously announced for European and Asian ETFs and exchange-traded commodities (ETCs).
Deutsche X-trackers will be replaced with "Xtrackers" to further align with Deutsche AM's other index trackers. The US suite of ETFs, with more than $12.5 billion in AUM (as of August 31, 2017) in 35 ETFs, provides unique investment opportunities to clients through products offering access to brand new marketplaces, funds that seek better risk-adjusted returns, and products that provide the potential ability to benefit from further efficiencies in the market.
