December 29, 2017--Summary
Canadian equities were positive in 2017, with the S&P/TSX Composite up 9%. Health Care was the top performing sector, up 34%, while Energy was the laggard, down 7%.
2017 was a banner year for U.S. equities. Large caps were the winners, with the S&P 500 up 22%, marking 14 consecutive months of gains. Smaller caps were also positive as the S&P MidCap 400 and the S&P SmallCap 600 registered gains of 16% and 13%, respectively. Equity volatility was at extremely low levels, with the VIX closing the year at 11.04.

ICI-ETF Assets and Net Issuance November 2017
December 28, 2017--The combined assets of the nation's exchange-traded funds (ETFs) were $3.33 trillion in November, according to ICI.
The Institute's monthly statistical collection also includes the value of shares issued and redeemed by exchange-traded funds.
Statistics contained in the Institute's monthly ETF report have been obtained from information provided to ICI by exchange-traded funds and commodity funds. Commodity funds are listed in the Domestic (Sector/Industry) category.

Cboe Welcomes New Issuer AlphaClone To ETF Marketplace
December 27, 2017--Cboe Global Markets, Inc. (Cboe: CBOE | Nasdaq: CBOE), one of the world's largest exchange holding companies, today announced that two AlphaClone funds successfully transferred to the Cboe ETF Marketplace from NYSE Arca today.
The AlphaClone Alternative Alpha ETF (Cboe: ALFA) seeks to track the price and yield, before fees and expenses, of the AlphaClone Hedge Fund Downside Hedged Index. The AlphaClone International ETF (Cboe: ALFI) seeks to track the total return performance, before fees and expenses, of the AlphaClone International Downside Hedged Index.

SEC halts trading in crypto firm after eye-popping rise
December 19, 2017--U.S. securities regulators on Tuesday temporarily suspended trading in the shares of Crypto Company, a small firm that saw its stock rise more than 2,700 percent this month after signing a deal to buy a cryptocurrency data platform.
The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission cited concerns about the "accuracy and adequacy of information" about the Malibu, California-based company available to investors. The suspension will remain in place until Jan. 3.

Global Investor Confidence Declines in December by 1.5 points to 94.8
December 26, 2017--State Street Global Exchange today released the results of the State Street Investor Confidence Index(R) (ICI) for December 2017.
The Global Investor Confidence Index decreased to 94.8, down 1.5 points from November's revised reading of 96.3.
The fall in sentiment was driven by a 6.2 point drop in the North American ICI to 94.9 and a 2.8 point fall in the Asian ICI to 94.8. However, the European ICI rose 16 points to 96.9.

Now maybe the folks who voted on it will have time to read it. Please forgive us for being a little cynical about the political process but more and more the landmark pieces of legislation often come with unintended consequences, so it was true for Affordable Care Act, so it is likely to be with the new tax plan.
Whether cynicism is justified or not the bond market’s reaction was interesting. The yield on the Ten Year US Treasury Note moved higher on the news to 2.48%, up about ten basis points from where it was on Monday.

Barclays Announces Expected Delisting of GAZ ETNs
December 22, 2017--Barclays Bank PLC ("Barclays") announced today that it expects the New York Stock Exchange Arca (the "NYSE Arca") to commence proceedings to delist the iPath(R) Bloomberg Natural Gas Subindex Total ReturnSM Exchange Traded Notes (the "ETNs") (Ticker: GAZ) from the NYSE Arca.
The delisting decision was reached because such condition exists, which in the opinion of NYSE Arca, makes further dealings on the exchange inadvisable pursuant to NYSE Arca Rule 5.2-E(j)(6)(B)(II)(2)(b)(iii). Specifically, the Notes are no longer suitable for listing based on abnormally low trading prices. The Index underlying the ETNs is the Bloomberg Natural Gas Subindex Total ReturnSM (the "Index"), with Bloomberg ticker BCOMNGTR.

Invesco Announces Fee Cut on two PowerShares ETFs
December 22, 2017--Invesco (NYSE: IVZ), a leading global provider of exchange-traded funds (ETFs), announced today that management fees on the PowerShares S&P 500 Momentum Portfolio (SPMO) and the PowerShares S&P 500 Enhanced Value Portfolio (SPVU) are being lowered from 0.25% to 0.13%, effective January 1, 2018.
