Investment Management Veteran Joins Northern Trust Asset Management to Lead Funds and Managed Accounts
January 19, 2018--Northern Trust Asset Management has named Darek Wojnar, CFA, a 23-year investment industry veteran, as head of funds and managed accounts.
Wojnar will oversee the development, distribution and management of the firm's Northern mutual funds, FlexShares exchange-traded funds (ETFs), and managed accounts. He will be based in Chicago, reporting to Shundrawn Thomas, president of Northern Trust Asset Management, whom he succeeds in this role.

Cboe Welcomes New Issuer Barclays to ETF Marketplace
January 18, 2018--Cboe Global Markets, Inc. (Cboe: CBOE | Nasdaq: CBOE), one of the world's largest exchange holding companies, today welcomed new issuer Barclays to the Cboe ETF Marketplace, with the launch of two exchange-traded notes (ETNs), together the "New ETNs".
The iPath(R) Series B S&P 500(R) VIX Short-Term Futures ETN (Cboe: VXXB) is designed to provide investors with exposure to the performance of the S&P 500(R) VIX Short-Term Futures Index TR, which is designed to measure the return from a daily rolling long position in the front and second month futures contracts on the Cboe Volatility Index(R) (VIX(R) Index).

ROBO Global Robotics & Automation Index ETF (ROBO) Surpasses $2 Billion in Assets Under Management
January 18, 2018--ROBO returned 49 percent to investors in the last 12 months
After doubling its assets in the last five months, the ROBO Global Robotics & Automation Index ETF (Nasdaq: ROBO) crossed the $2 billion assets under management (AUM) threshold.
ROBO, which tracks the ROBO Global Robotics & Automation Index, returned 49 percent to investors in the last 12 months and 76 percent since inception in fall 2013. The index, created by ROBO Global, is the first in the world to track the global robotics, automation and artificial intelligence (RAAI) sector.

SEC says bitcoin funds raise 'investor protection issues'
January 18, 2018--The U.S. securities regulator on Thursday raised alarm about the safety of bitcoin-themed investments, telling the fund industry they want answers to their concerns before endorsing more than a dozen proposed products based on cryptocurrencies.
A top division chief at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission detailed the agency's concerns about the wild-trading investment in a letter to two trade groups representing fund managers who unleashed a range of proposals for funds holding bitcoin or related assets.

Fidelity Launches International Factor-Based ETFs
January 18, 2018--Fidelity Investors Now Have Access to 93 Commission-Free ETFs
Fidelity Investments, one of the industry's leading providers of exchange traded funds (ETFs) with more than $300 billion in ETF assets under administration,ii today announced it is expanding its factor-based ETF offerings for individual investors and financial advisors with the introduction of two international factor-based ETFs:
Fidelity International High Dividend ETF (FIDI) and Fidelity International Value Factor ETF (FIVA).
The new ETFs, which began trading on the New York Stock Exchange today, are competitively priced with total expense ratios of just 0.39%. They are available to individual investors and financial advisors commission-freeiii through Fidelity's online brokerage platforms.

NYSE to launch new NYSE National exchange in second quarter
January 17, 2018--New York Stock Exchange parent Intercontinental Exchange Inc (ICE) plans to launch its fourth U.S. stock market, NYSE National, in the second quarter, according to a recent regulatory filing.
NYSE National will be the 13th U.S. stock exchange and will differ from the NYSE, NYSE Arca, and NYSE American in that it will only be a trading venue and not a listing market, NYSE said in the Jan. 12 filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.

Treasury International Capital Data For November
January 17, 2018--The U.S. Department of the Treasury today released Treasury International Capital (TIC) data for November 2017. The next release, which will report on data for December 2017, is scheduled for February 15, 2018.
The sum total in November of all net foreign acquisitions of long-term securities, short-term U.S. securities, and banking flows was a monthly net TIC inflow of $33.8 billion. Of this, net foreign private inflows were $49.7 billion, and net foreign official outflows were $15.9 billion.
