British Columbia Securities Commission (BCSC) Investor Alert: Cryptocurrencies
May 17, 2018--The British Columbia Securities Commission (BCSC) has noticed an increase in the number of cryptocurrency offerings involving an initial coin offering (ICO) or initial token offering (ITO).
Companies may use cryptocurrency offerings to raise capital or to advance a project or a business, by issuing newly invented coins or tokens through an ICO or ITO. In many cases, these coins and tokens are securities. If they are securities, the company, and associated individuals, conducting the ICO or ITO must comply with securities law.
British Columbia residents should exercise extreme caution when considering whether to invest in a cryptocurrency offering. While some companies follow through on their business plan or idea, others do not. Some companies issue coins or tokens solely for speculative trading in the secondary market, which is an inherently risky activity for investors.

Virtus ETF Solutions and InfraCap Introduce Preferred Stock ETF
May 17, 2018--Virtus InfraCap U.S. Preferred Stock ETF Launches on NYSE as 'PFFA'
Virtus ETF Solutions, an affiliate of Virtus Investment Partners, Inc. (NASDAQ: VRTS), has partnered with Infrastructure Capital Advisors, LLC (InfraCap) to introduce the Virtus InfraCap U.S. Preferred Stock ETF, which begins trading today under the ticker "PFFA" on NYSE Arca.
The fund seeks current income and capital appreciation in a sector that may be less understood by investors, said Jay Hatfield, founder and chief executive officer of InfraCap and co-portfolio manager. US REITs- It's not just about interest rates
May 16, 2018--How does US Equity REIT performance stack up to the overall US equity market? Over the period from January 1991 through March 2018, the risk-adjusted performance (as measured by the Sharpe Ratio) of the FTSE Nareit Equity REITs Index-a leading benchmark for listed US equity REIT stocks-was closely in line with that of the broad US equity market as represented by the Russell 3000(R) Index.
Total performance for REITs was slightly higher. Over this period, moreover, the correlation between REITs and the Russell 3000 was 0.57, indicating the potential of diversification benefits relative to the general US equity market.

Global X Launches AI, Big Data ETF
May 16, 2018--The universe of exchange-traded funds dedicated companies involved in artificial intelligence and big data technologies continues growing.
On Tuesday, Global X introduced the Global X Future Analytics Tech ETF AIQ.
The latest ETF from New York-based Global X tracks the Indxx Artificial Intelligence & Big Data Index. AIQ "holds a basket of companies that are generating vast amounts of data and developing proprietary AI systems to derive actionable insights from that data," according to a statement from Global X.

Xtrackers to Close and Liquidate Three Exchange-Traded Funds
May 16, 2018--DWS today announced plans to close and liquidate three Xtrackers exchange-traded funds (ETFs)-Xtrackers MSCI Brazil Hedged Equity ETF (NYSE Arca: DBBR), Xtrackers MSCI EAFE Small Cap Hedged Equity ETF (Cboe: DBES) and Xtrackers MSCI Mexico Hedged Equity ETF (NYSE Arca: DBMX).
The three funds represent less than 1% of Xtrackers total US assets under management as of May 10, 2018.
DWS plans to close and liquidate these funds following a regular and ongoing process to review and evolve the Xtrackers product lineup to ensure the business continues to meet clients' needs. The last day of trading is expected to be May 31, 2018.
