ETFGI reports assets invested in ETFs and ETPs listed in the Canada reached a new high of US$123 billion at the end of July 2018
August 22, 2018--ETFGI, a leading independent research and consultancy firm on trends in the global ETF/ETP ecosystem, reported today that ETFs and ETPs listed in Canada reached a new high of US$123 billion in assets, following net inflows and market moves of US$987 million during July, according to ETFGI's July 2018 Canada ETF and ETP industry landscape insights report, an annual paid-for research subscription service. (All dollar values in USD unless otherwise noted.)
Highlights
ETF/ETP assets have increased by 2.84% to reach a record $123 Bn at the end of July.
ETFs and ETPs listed in Canada experienced net inflows of $987 Mn during July.
Fixed income ETFs/ETPs gathered the largest net inflows during July, while commodity ETFs/ETPs saw the smallest.

SEC rejects nine proposals for bitcoin ETFs
August 22, 2018--The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) on Wednesday rejected applications for nine bitcoin-based exchange-traded funds (ETF) from three separate companies.
ETF provider Direxion proposed to list and trade five bitcoin ETFs, while GraniteShares and ProShare presented two each, all of which were rejected by the SEC.

August 21, 2018--Vanguard, the leader in low-cost investing, today launched the largest suite of commission-free ETFs available to investors.1
As announced in early July, Vanguard is offering commission-free online transactions on approximately 90% of all ETFs-nearly 1,800 of the roughly 2,000 ETFs currently trading on the major exchanges. Vanguard has excluded inverse and leveraged ETFs due to their highly speculative nature.

In Pursuit of New Customers, JPMorgan Offers Free Trades
August 21, 2018--JPMorgan targets trading platforms like E*Trade, Schwab and Robinhood, with its free, You Invest, service. The real threat, however, might be to Acorns.
JPMorgan Chase will be launching a digital investing service with free and discounted trades, beginning Monday, WealthManagement.com confirmed. The move will make the bank more competitive with discount brokerages, such as Charles Schwab and E*Trade, as well as no-fee trading services, like Robinhood.

JPMorgan Offers Free Trades, Accelerating a Pricing War
August 21, 2018--The bank says a new investing service will allow at least 100 free stock trades over one year
JPMorgan Chase & Co. is boosting its digital investing service with free trades for customers in a move that sent the world of online brokerages into disarray Tuesday.
The bank is trying to bring in more first-time investors, including millennials, as well as customers of the bank who invest elsewhere.

AdvisorShares Active ETF Market Share Update-Week Ending 8/17/2018
August 20, 2018--Assets in actively managed ETFs added $517 million last week to reach $61.98 billion in total net assets.
First Trust took the top spot in new AUM growth with $205 million, followed by JP Morgan with a $154 million gain.
There were two fund launches and no fund closures, which brought the total of actively managed ETFs currently trading at 239.
