HAL to pay: where hedge funds think AI can really work

September 12, 2016--Some funds using artificial intelligence already; others see obstacles to its success.

Artificial intelligence (AI) is transforming robotics, voice recognition, translation software and the promise of self-driving cars. It helps Netflix recommend films and Google DeepMind beat a human in a game of Go, an ancient Chinese board game many times more complex than chess. Can AI revolutionise the investment industry in the same way?

Infographic-How Precious Metals Streaming Works

September 12, 2016--Miners seeking new capital have always had a variety of options: they could issue new shares, take out a loan,, enter into joint-venture agreements, or divest non-core assets.

However, in the last decade, a new option has emerged called "precious metals streaming"-in which streaming companies essentially offer capital up front to mining companies in exchange for metal later.

ETF Securities Weekly Flows Analysis-Gold to rally if Fed doesn't hike

September 12, 2016--The longer the Fed postpones its second rate hike, the greater the support for gold.
Silver ETPs benefit from strong ties to gold, with second consecutive weekly inflows.
Net inflows in long USD ETPs suggest investors wary of rate hike ahead of the next Fed meeting

Gold ETPs recorded net inflows of US$116mn following more disappointing US economic data. Although the Fed chairwoman said at the Jackson Hole Symposium that the case for a rate hike has strengthened recently, weaker-than-expected jobs and services sector data provided more reasons for the Fed to not increase interest rates at its meeting on September 20.

DECPG Global Daily Economic News-Russia Q2 GDP growth confirmed at 0.6 percent (y/y)

September 9, 2016--Financial Markets
Oil prices edged lower on Friday following the biggest one-week U.S. stockpile drop in about 17 years. But prices were still set for a weekly gain of more than 4 percent as traders see a surprisingly large drawdown in U.S. crude stocks as a one-off caused by a tropical storm.

Brent crude, the global benchmark, fell 2.2 percent to $48.85 a barrel, while West Texas Intermediate (WTI), the U.S. benchmark, dropped 2.1 percent to $46.22 a barrel.

The government bond selloff deepened, with longer-dated securities bearing the most of the brunt, as central banks begin to question the benefits of further monetary easing. Government debt from Japan to the U.S. has tumbled since European Central Bank President Mario Draghi damped QE speculation. While developed-market bond yields are still lagging below historical averages, they are quickly rising from record lows reached earlier this year, which saw German benchmark 10-year yields climb above zero for the first time since July 22.

You may have seen it: the satellite map showed, quite simply, that "more people live inside this circle, than outside of it".

The threat of investors liquidating their commodity stakes has climbed in recent years as speculative funds have become dominant and longer-term investors increasingly shun the sector.
