New Global Pathway on Carbon Pricing Can Shift Finance to Sustainable Investments: World Bank

May 29, 2017--New conclusions from the High-Level Commission on Carbon Prices, led by Nobel Laureate Joseph Stiglitz and Lord Nicholas Stern, provide the right advice at the right time to boost climate-friendly growth, investment and innovation, according to the World Bank's Senior Director for Climate Change.

The High-Level Commission, which was convened by the Carbon Pricing Leadership Coalition and supported by the Government of France and the World Bank, brought together 13 leading economists from nine developed and developing countries to identify the range of carbon prices which would help deliver on the core goal of the Paris Agreement: keeping the rise in global temperatures to below 2 degrees Celsius.

World Economic Forum-Global Pension Timebomb: Funding Gap Set to Dwarf World GDP

May 26, 2017--The world's six largest pension saving systems-the US, UK, Japan, Netherlands, Canada and Australia-are expected to reach a $224 trillion gap by 2050, a new study by the World Economic Forum shows

Adding in China and India, which have the world's largest populations, the combined savings gap for the eight countries reaches a total of $400 trillion by 2050, a sum five times the size of the current global economy

With the gap driven by longer lifespans and reduced levels of savings, the World Economic Forum recommends five measures to help economies avert a prolonged pensions crisis

Central bank Governors welcome global code of conduct for currency markets

May 25, 2017--The Governors of the Global Economy Meeting welcome the publication of the FX Global Code, a single global code for the wholesale foreign exchange market, as well as the establishment of the Global Foreign Exchange Committee to maintain the Code in the future.

This represents the culmination of a two-year collaborative initiative between central banks and private sector market participants from across the globe. The Code is voluntary and covers important areas including ethics, governance, execution, information-sharing, risk management and compliance as well as confirmation and settlement.

May 25, 2017--The growing optimism over big oil-producing countries extending output cuts to mitigate oversupply woes propelled WTI Crude to a fresh monthly high at $51.76 on May 18.

Although OPEC and Non-OPEC members have, on repeated occasions, exploited oil's sensitivity to generate speculative boosts in prices, this may come at a heavy cost if oil markets fail to rebalance.
