Global ETF News Older than One Year

ETF Securities-Precious Metals Monitor--October 2017

November 7, 2017--Key Highlight Gold: Bitcoin's NOT the culprit for slumping physical gold investment-it's Equities
Physical retail investment demand, particularly in the US, remains weak. This is potentially from high inventories of bars and coins combined with saturated demand from high purchases in recent years.

This trend is also notable in the sales of US American Gold Eagle coins through October accounting for only 247,500 ounces compared to 808,500 in 2016. US coin sales have not been this low since 2007 which saw only 133,000 ounces sold in the first 10 months. Many are attributing this weak investment demand due to a substitution effect from Bitcoin, a cryptocurrency, which has seen a skyrocket increase in speculation and price this year.

BetaShares-Global Market Outlook: Life in the fast lane

November 7, 2017--Month in Review
Global equities enjoyed another good month in October, buoyed by ongoing signs of synchronised growth in many parts of the word, solid corporate earnings and persistent low inflation.

Also helping was the failure of various simmering political risks-North Korea, Catalonia and the Trump "Russia probe"-to erupt and hurt investment sentiment.

The MSCI All-Country Equity Index posted a net return of 2.6% in local currency terms, and a stronger 4.4% gain in $A terms-the latter reflecting weakness in the Australian dollar during the month.

ETF Securities Weekly Flows Analysis-Gold ETP inflows grind higher after a mixed payroll report

November 6, 2017--Gold ETP inflows receive US$20.6mn for the second consecutive week after a mixed payroll report.
Strong price gains in the crude oil market prompt large outflows from oil ETPs worth US$73mn.
Inflows into global thematic equity ETFs garner momentum, totalling US$18.4mn.
Profit taking results in outflows from nickel ETPs, totalling US$8.6mn.

Gold ETP inflows increase for the second consecutive week amounting to US$20.6mn following a mixed payroll report. The pace of inflows has slowed considerably for gold ETPs over the past month. While the jobless rate fell, wages were a weak spot in October (rising 2.4% vs est 2.7% y-o-y). However with payroll gains averaging about 162,000 over the prior three months and the economy nearing maximum employment, the third rate hike by the Fed this year seems certain, adding further downside pressure on gold prices in the near term.

CMRA White Paper-Asset Liquidity Risk: Piecing Together the Puzzle

November 2, 2017--Liquidity risk is a key risk and has been a recent focal point for regulators, with increasing transparency and attention demanded by SEC Rule 22e-4 for mutual funds and by Basel III's liquidity requirements for banks.

Meanwhile, market participants have a sense that asset liquidity may be deteriorating, but there is little agreement even on the definition of liquidity risk or on how exactly to measure it. It is clear, however, that asset liquidity risk is multifaceted and managing it is both an art and a science.
